Joseph and Salvy Monastero, born in Philadelphia and raised in Caccamo, Sicily, opened La Canopy Ristorante in 1962 with their sister Gina. On February 7, 1967 they moved into the newly built Monastero’s Ristorante and expanded into the banquet business, opening the Botticelli Banquet Room in 1982 and Gina’s Banquet Room in 1992.Monastero’s Ristorante is famous for its annual Bel Canto Foundation Opera Evenings, Fall Grape Crushing Festival, Four Elegant Banquet Halls, and most of all, for its homemade Sicilian cuisine. Although Gina and Salvy are no longer living, Joseph Sr. along with his wife Martha, son Joe Jr, daughter Maria Giorgia, and Salvy’s daughter Maria Elisabeth, honor their memory byserving Monastero’s wonderful customers and promoting the beauty of the island of “Sicilia Bedda.
